Trzcianne
Bill Brostoff
Trzcianne is a small village not far from Białystok. At its peak, 98% of the population was Jewish. The cemetery was established about 1850, and then destroyed during WWII. At present, a few to a few dozen "country-style" matzevot remain.
I was able to commission a memorial in 2018, but there has been little progress since because some local stakeholders have been against any sort of restoration. I am working with regional and national authorities to overcome this resistance and fully expect to clear the vegetation, document the matzevot, and protect the cemetery within the next couple of years.
